Active in all area’s of femtech, we develop science-based services for Ava’s users, and for Ava to become a companion for women throughout their whole reproductive age. Ava cooperates with international researchers in gynecology, obstetrics, reproductive endocrinology, computational science, machine learning, physiology, chronobiology, sensor technologies, data security and signal processing.
Clinical and research cooperations
Ava is Interested in clinical and research cooperation in gynecology, obstetrics and adjacent fields.
For cooperating researchers, Ava can provide fully anonymized data including
- Raw data of all physiological signals
- User entered daily survey information for environmental and behavioral parameters
- Demographic data of participants
- Processed data of ovulation, fertile days and other outcomes
- User entered data into the App e.g. menstruation and symptoms
Ava abides by the highest security standard both in the EU and the United States, and has region specific servers for storing the data. The users’ data is stored anonymously with their id and registration info separately stored.

After medical studies at the University of Aachen/Germany, Prof. Leeners became a senior physician at the University of Zurich/Switzerland. One of her main research topics is mathematical modelling of the menstrual cycle. Prof. Leeners’ research has been published in leading publications in the field of gynecology and reproduction medicine around the world. Prof. Leeners has been strongly involved in the scientific studies of Ava, and joined the scientific advisory board in 2015.
Lisa Falco, PhD
VP Data Science
After an MSc in Engineering Physics from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg/Sweden, Lisa did a PhD in biomedical signal processing at EPFL in Lausanne/Switzerland and was a visiting researcher at Harvard Medical School in Boston/US. Lisa worked in the algorithm and signal processing teams of Solianis (non-invasive measurement of blood sugar) and Scanco Medical (microcomputed tomography scanners). Lisa is the author of several patents and has presented scientific results at various international conferences.
Prof. Dr. Elena Gates
